The Managed Services Facility (MSF) is a new, innovative contractual arrangement that has established long-term contracts with AECOM and Capgemini Engineering to add capacity and capability to Network Rail’s workforce during peaks of activity as well as introducing innovative ideas from other sectors. Asset Insights have worked with the MSF Team to create a modern application for managing work packages and reporting across the portfolio.

The challenge

Established April 2019, the MSF has seen substantial growth with 100’s of Work Packages (WP) processed through the arrangement. Initially the process for managing WPs from initial capture to close-out was being coordinated within a series of siloed spreadsheets and emails. As the number of concurrent WPs grew, the spreadsheets became more susceptible to trivial human errors, coordination was challenging and consolidating reporting views across the portfolio was painstaking, distracting the MSF Team from their core roles. With the MSF already live the team needed to modernise their current tools and approach at pace, without disruption to the WPs already being processed.
